The University of Ghana Tennis Court is set to come alive on Saturday, October 25, 2025, when four top corporate institutions compete in the maiden edition of the Corporate Tennis Championship.
GOIL PLC, Stanbic Bank, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Volta River Authority (VRA) will vie for supremacy in the men’s singles and doubles categories as part of efforts to promote networking and wellness among corporate Ghana.
The official draw, held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, paired GOIL PLC against Stanbic Bank, while VRA will face GCAA in the other semi-final for a place in the finals.

Speaking at the event launch in Accra, the Senior Assistant Registrar of the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, Mr Augustine Amissare, said the institution was excited to host the competition, which seeks to strengthen partnerships and encourage healthy living through sports.
“On Saturday, we are expecting that it is going to be as good as the football that we had. We are starting with a small number, only four teams, but we are confident that next year, by this time, we'll be talking about a huge number of teams,” Mr Amissare said.
He added that the University aimed to make the event memorable and transparent to encourage more corporate bodies to participate in subsequent editions. “We want to make this occasion a memorable one and to a large extent ensure fairness so that more corporate bodies would like to come the next year,” he stated.
The President of the Ghana Tennis Association (GTA), Mr Isaac Duah, described the initiative as an important milestone for tennis development in the country, noting that corporate involvement would play a vital role in revitalising the sport.
“The championship is expected to bring many exciting moments ahead. There is going to be a lot of networking for the companies, and we hope companies will use the right people to compete at the event,” Mr Duah said.
He also expressed optimism that the Corporate Tennis Championship would contribute to the sport’s revival. “I want to use the opportunity to thank the media, sponsors and invite the tennis community to come here on Saturday to network and make tennis grow bigger and better, to become the number two sport again in Ghana,” he added.
The Chief Executive Officer of Rite Sports Services, organisers of the competition, Mr Yaw Sakyi, said the event follows the success of similar corporate games in football and athletics.
He explained that the collaboration with the Ghana Tennis Association was aimed at creating an engaging platform that merges fitness, competition and professional networking.
“We decided to partner with the GTA because tennis has a growing following among corporate institutions. We are grateful to all the companies supporting this initiative, and we are committed to ensuring fairness and excitement in this and future events,” Mr Sakyi said.
The championship is expected to attract tennis enthusiasts, corporate teams and members of the public, with organisers promising an entertaining and competitive atmosphere at the University of Ghana courts.
